About us

The IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) has three areas of responsibility

IHK instead of state

The IHK represents business interests in the region to politicians and the authorities. We work to achieve business-friendly conditions for free enterprise. The IHK stands for a free market economy and less state bureaucracy. We carry out tasks that would otherwise need to be financed by the State – for example, the numerous unpaid examiners, who carry out tests in connection with professional education. The costs of the IHK are monitored by business through the General Assembly, i.e. the representatives of business elected by the businesses themselves.

The parliament of business

As one of our members, you too will be able to help developing the regional business environment, for example by taking part in IHK committees and working groups. You can participate in the elections for the general assembly - the industrial parliament - as a voter and as a candidate every five years; the executive board and the president of the executive board are then elected from their midst. The presidium and president are then elected from the Assembly.  The following democratic principle applies: Each company has one vote.

Who are the members of the IHK?

All businesses in a district, apart from manual tradespeople, are by law members of the CIT. Membership is mandatory. Legal basis is the IHK Law.

What can the IHK do for your business?

The IHK carries out tasks, as set out in the relevant laws, to represent the general interests of businesses and to provide services in the following areas:

  • Regional Economic Policy
  • Business Start-up and support
  • Training and Further Education
  • Innovation | Environment
  • International
  • Legal Affairs | Fair Play
